Oak Moss

As a note that reveals the bursting force of nature in its most humid and lively intimacies, oak moss is infused with extremely green scents, enriched by intense woody and leathery characteristics. Its earthy and fungal character makes it a precious tool for shaping the essences it accompanies.

The first traces of the use of oak moss date back to the embalming of Egyptian mummies. The ritual lasted seventy days and was believed to allow the deceased to reach eternity, thanks to the preservative properties of oak moss, but also to its ability to preserve the scents added during the procedure. Three thousand years later, perfumers still use oakmoss absolutes as a base note for the same purpose, making perfumes last longer.

For the ancient Celts, Jews, Greeks and Romans, oak was considered a sacred tree of long life, synonymous with strength due to its unique way of standing out towards the sky, and a source of inspiration for ancient and contemporary poetic and artistic works. As a symbol of majesty, eternity and grounding, it was mythologized as the tree from which man was born, favored by the nymphs and seen as the sacred place of union between Zeus and Hera.
