It is part of the Oleaceae family, which contains more than two hundred species, although in perfumery only two are particularly valuable: Spanish Jasmine, cultivated in Italy, India, Egypt, and Morocco, and the J. Sambac variety, cultivated in China and India, also known as the "Grand Duke of Tuscany" since it was brought to Italy by Cosimo I De' Medici.
