Cassis

The cassis fruit, also known as blackcurrant, is native to Europe and Asia and was first documented by the ancient Greeks and Romans for its medicinal properties. As with other plants with dark parts, the fruits of the cassis, edible and with a sweet taste, were considered capable of curing black moods. In past times they were therefore used to cure plagues and fevers and to ward off melancholy.
