Description

Delicious, rich, sweet and bitter, cocoa is an olfactory note with earthy, spicy and pungent features. Due to its intensity and persistence, it pairs particularly well with gourmand, spicy and fruity notes.

History

Followed by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes, Cristopher Columbus was the first to discover the cocoa plant in the Americas, and to bring its precious seeds to Europe. From that moment on, the gold of the gods also seduced doctors and pharmacists, who found miraculous properties in its beans, such as that of extending life.

The Maya were the first to cultivate cocoa plants, not only as food, but also as a votive offering during funeral rites.
Cocoa was in fact used to make a drink prepared with water, corn flour and spices such as chili pepper, to which the Maya attributed magical stimulating properties.
