Bergamot

With its green, citrus and somewhat metallic scents, the olfactory note of bergamot holds the memory of sweet, sunny summer mornings and lazy spring days. Its fleeting lightness, casual and sweet, makes bergamot an infinitely dynamic note, with the ability to enhance warm and woody essences or add a touch of liveliness to floral notes.

Known as the Green Gold of Calabria, throughout history, the benefits of the bergamot fruit have extended far beyond its importance in perfumery. In fact, due to its miraculous healing properties, it is said that the father of Western medicine Hippocrates used to pat it gently on the skin. Thanks these extraordinary qualities, tea producers decided to use it for the Earl Gray blend.

The plant owes its name to the Turks who called it "beg armudi", or "Pear of the Lord", due to its characteristic shape, which makes it one of the most renowned citrus fruits. Its appearance in fact is very similar to that of lime, and makes it an interesting hybrid between lemon and bitter orange.
