Description

Spicy, green and somewhat fruity, the olfactory note of sage is rich in herbaceous hints and floral facets that enrich its aromatic character. Sparkling and intense, it provides other notes with a vibrant and earthy twist.

History

The word "sage" derives from the Latin "salvus", meaning saved, and "salus", meaning health, both terms that indicate its innumerable virtues. A famous quote of the medieval doctors of the Salerno School of Medicine stated that those in whose gardens sage grew could never die. In fact, it was actually the Salerno Medical School, guardian of medieval medical knowledge, that gave this plant the name Salvia Salvatrix, sage that saves.

Throughout the centuries, sage has always been considered a symbol ol life, used as a cure-all by the ancient Romans and during ceremonies by the American Indians. The Indians in particular believed that its dried leaves, when burned, had the power to purify environments and people, as well as providing protection against negative influences.
