Description

Dark and rich in spicy and complex scents, carnation is an aromatic, warm and green olfactory note. Its earthy and penetrating character is used to give an amber and flowery twist to the notes it combines with, increasing their duration and fragrance.

History

Carnation comes from the Mediterranean coast, where it was used for medicinal purposes as an antidote to poisons and a remedy against the plague. The Greek botanist Theophrastus renamed it “Dianthus”, from the Greek words dìos, meaning divine, and ànthos, meaning flower, therefore throughout history dianthus has represented a divine flower.

Within mythology it represents the flower sacred to the hunt goddess Diana, and according to a Christian legend, it was born from the tears shed by the Virgin Mary, becoming a symbol of naive, sincere and pure maternal love.
